What to Expect on Your FUE Procedure Day

If you're preparing for an FUE hair transplant with Dr. Wise, knowing what to expect can help put your mind at ease. Here's a detailed look at what a typical procedure day looks like at the Wise Institute for Hair Restoration.

Pre-Procedure Preparation

Your day begins with arrival at our comfortable Wayne, NJ facility. The team will greet you and make sure you're settled in. Dr. Wise will review the treatment plan, confirm the donor and recipient areas, and mark the hairline design that was discussed during your consultation. Before the procedure begins, local anesthesia is administered to ensure your comfort throughout the process.

The Extraction Phase

Using a precision micro-punch instrument, Dr. Wise carefully extracts individual follicular units from the donor area — typically the back and sides of the head where hair is naturally resistant to DHT (the hormone responsible for hair loss). Each graft is extracted one at a time, ensuring minimal trauma to the surrounding tissue. The extracted follicles are immediately placed in Hypothermosol, a protective biopreservation solution, and stored in a Cole Chiller to maintain their viability.

Graft Preparation and Quality Control

While extraction continues, the clinical team carefully examines and prepares each graft under magnification. This meticulous quality control ensures that only the healthiest follicular units are selected for transplantation, maximizing the success rate of the procedure.

The Transplantation Phase

Dr. Wise creates tiny recipient sites in the thinning or balding areas, carefully controlling the angle, direction, and density of each placement. This is where his training as a facial plastic surgeon truly shines — his artistic eye ensures that the transplanted hair will grow in a natural pattern that complements your facial features. Each follicular unit is gently placed into its new location.

Post-Procedure Care

After the transplantation is complete, Dr. Wise reviews detailed aftercare instructions with you. You'll receive ATPv solution to take home — a patented formulation that provides energy to the newly transplanted follicles during the critical 3-5 day reconnection period. The Wise Institute also offers two complimentary sessions of Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT) to accelerate healing and promote early hair growth.

Most patients are surprised by how comfortable the entire process is. Many watch movies, listen to music, or simply relax during the procedure. Ready to take the first step? Contact the Wise Institute to schedule your consultation.
